The total lunar eclipse of Sunday January 20/21st 2019 was falling into a period of unsettled and rainy weather. We had planned to observe the event from the Tri-Valley Stargazer observing site near Livermore California. But rain at the site persisted during the initial phases of the eclipse and we decided to go back home. Along the drive the sky cleared up a little and at home there were luckily a few holes in the clouds to get some images from the end of totality and the remaining partial phase.
Photos were taken with a 100mm F8 refractor and Canon 600D. On previous eclipses an additional 1.4x teleconverter was used, but it was found to produce artefacts due to internal reflection. This can be seen in the photos from the 2014 lunar eclipse. Exposures and ISO setting were adjusted to show the illuminated as well as the dark portion of the moon.

Die totale Mondfinsternis vom Sonntag 20/21. Januar 2019 fiel in die Schlechtwetterzeit in Kalifornien. Wir hatten geplant, die Finsternis vom Beobachtungsort der Tri-Valley Stargazer, Kalifornien zu beobachten. Am Zielort verhinderten dann aber Regenschauer und Wolken die Beobachtung. Wir entschlossen uns zurück nach hause zu fahren. Während der Fahrt klarte es teilweise auf, und zuhause angekommen gelangen noch ein paar Aufnahmen durch Wolkenlücken vom Ende der Totalität und der abschließenden partiellen Phase.
Die Aufnahmen wurden mit einem 10cm F8 Refraktor und Canon 600D DSLR gemacht. Bei der Finsternis im Oktober 2014 wurde noch ein 1.4x Telekonverter eingessetzt. Der hatte aber durch interne Reflektionen Bildartefakte erzeugt und wurde diesmal nicht eingesetzt.

Belichtungszeiten und ISO wurden angepasst, um die beleuchteten und verfinsterten Teile des Mondes zu zeigen.
